UAE-Team Emirates hires Mikkel Bjerg for three seasons
UAE-Team Emirates continues to build a good future. After the signatures of promising Andres Camilo Ardila and Brandon Mcnulty, the Emirati team has signed Mikkel Bjerg, the two-time U23 world champion, for the next three seasons. After two years with Hagens Berman Axeons, the 20-year-old Danish rider will join the Worldtour, at least until the end of 2022.
Mikkel is one of the most promising prospects for the time trial. Between him and Mcnulty, we now hold two great strengths of the discipline, said Joxean Matxin, the general manager. It is also important to say that he did not go far in grabbing the record of the hour. Doing what he did at such a young age is extremely impressive! In addition, he is not only good at timing. He is also strong on dishes and cobbles, and also knows how to negotiate short climbs.”
A time announced at Ineos, Bjerg explained his choice to join UAE-Team Emirates by the interest the team has in young people. “It’s very exciting to be part of a team characterized by a base of experienced racers with some of the best talent of the new generation: Philipsen, Pogacar, Mcnulty, Ardila… In my current team, young people work together and motivate each other. It will be interesting to experience this emulation at UAE!”
