Elia Viviani at Cofidis, it’s official!
Announced a long time ago, the transfer of Elia Viviani to Cofidis is now confirmed. The 30-year-old Italian sprinter will wear the colours of the Nordic squad in 2020 after two seasons with Deceuninck-Quick Step. He brings with him his usual pilot fish and friend Fabio Sabatini, 34 years old. With 75 career victories, including yesterday’s win over the Prudential Ridelondon, Viviani was visibly delighted to join the Cofidis ranks and to wear “one of the most historic jerseys of the peloton”.
I am very excited about running under my new colors. I was able to see, by talking with Cédric Vasseur and Roberto Damiani, how much the team wanted to recruit me and propose me an ambitious project. I very much appreciate the desire to create a dynamic around me and the confidence that I am shown with the arrival of my friend Fabio, explained Viviani in the official communiqué. As for my goals for next season, even though I won a stage this year, I really want to win more at the Tour de France. When it comes to classics, there are two races that I dream of winning: Milan-Sanremo and Ghent-Wevelgem. These will be my main objectives with Cofidis.”
